Three words, spring recruiting season (or is it "recruit signing season"? I'm definitely not the sports terminology afficionado). This includes ND winning a verbal commitment from Jimmy Clausen, the top quarterback recruit in the nation for the incoming class of 2007 (read here), among other coups of success. And actually there are four more key words, Reggie Bush & USC football. For those of you who have been living under a rock (or who just don't make college football stories your top priority when catching up on world news), this former USC star and Heisman trophy winner has been getting in lots of trouble for apparently not playing by the rules while at USC (you know the whole NCAA thing about student-athletes not accepting any kind of extra benefits while playing)...which has now brought attention to their entire football program...check out this article to get the synopsis of the follies of the Bush clan. The biggest consequence of this is the possibility that Bush will be ruled ineligible for many of the games he played during the 2004 and 2005 seasons...and the potential forfeiture of their 2004 national championship, though I feel like that is probably unlikely...and so does Pete Carroll, who I definitely hold in the highest regard (ha!).
For someone who grew up rooting for ND football while living in SC territory, you can imagine the joy a certain male Irish fan is getting from seeing the local heroes out here being brought down by their own cheating ways.
Needless to say, with so much drama to feast his eyes upon every morning and evening, that Irish fan hasn't quite made it to the blog lately.
