It's not that I'm against academic freedom, and admittedly being so far away from the Notre Dame bubble these days I don't have a wholly clear picture as to what is going on. However, it seems to me from the snippets I have caught regarding Fr. Jenkins' conclusion in regards to academic freedom on campus that perhaps the character of the univeristy is indeed changing and it makes one wonder if within our lifetimes we'll be recalling with sadness the days of our undergrad experiences as "back when ND was truly a Catholic institution". Certainly not trying to stir up dissention here, though I'd love to hear thoughts on the subject from y'all, especially those who are still close enough to the situation to know more about what's actually going on. :)
